The Dino 156 F2, introduced in 1957, was the first race car under the Dino marque, named after Enzo Ferrari's son. Designed for Formula 2, it featured a novel front-mounted 1.5-litre V6 engine co-designed by Vittorio Jano. Producing 180 PS at 9000 rpm, the car had a steel tube chassis, independent front suspension, and de Dion rear axle. It debuted with success at the Naples Grand Prix, driven by Luigi Musso, Maurice Trintignant, and Peter Collins. The Dino 156 F2's design and engine laid the groundwork for future Ferrari V6-powered race cars.
