Timeline

The Ferrari Dino 166 P, launched in 1965, was a compact endurance racer with a pioneering all-aluminum berlinetta body designed by Piero Drogo. It was the first Ferrari sports prototype to showcase the 'Dino' badge and a closed body. Powered by a 1.6 L rear-mounted engine producing 175 PS, it featured a 65° V-angle and dual overhead camshafts, a configuration that became standard in later Dino models. Weighing 586 kg, the car had a tubular steel chassis and independent suspension. Its racing achievements include a victory at the GP Roma and a strong performance at the 1000km Nürburgring. The 166 P's design and technology informed the subsequent Dino 206 SP, which had an open body and a larger 2.0 L engine.
