In 1966, Pininfarina designed the Dino Berlinetta GT prototype, an evolution of its previous concept car. Revealed at the 48th Turin Motor Show, it previewed the production Dino road car that would debut a year later. This prototype featured a longer body and wheelbase than the production version, accommodating a longitudinally mounted 2.0-liter V6 engine (Type 135B), sourced for road use. Distinctive elements included three round taillights on a chrome background, turn signals below the front grille, and side air intakes with chrome bars serving as door handles. The car's access to the engine was through a large lid incorporating the buttresses and rear convex window. Built on a Type 599 chassis, it was assigned chassis number 00106 in 1967. The yellow-painted prototype was auctioned by Gooding & Company in 2018 for $3,080,000.
