Timeline

The Ferrari 125 F1, Ferrari's first Formula One car, was developed alongside the 125 S sports racer by Enzo Ferrari, Valerio Colotti, and Gioacchino Colombo. Initially named the 125 GPC (Gran Premio Città), this supercharged 1.5-liter V12 racer shared its engine with the 125 S but featured a steel tube-frame chassis, double wishbone suspension with a transverse leaf spring at the front and a torsion bar (later de Dion tube) at the rear. It debuted at the Italian Grand Prix in 1948, placing third. In 1949, the engine was upgraded with dual overhead camshafts and a two-stage supercharger, enhancing top-end performance and securing five Grand Prix wins. The 125 F1 evolved further in 1950, dropping superchargers for a larger displacement and Lampredi's 275 engine. The original chassis were lost but an exact replica with the original Colombo engine is displayed in Museo Ferrari, Maranello.
