Timeline

In 1980, Ferrari introduced the 208 GTB and 208 GTS, two-liter versions of the 308, primarily for the Italian market to circumvent high value-added tax on cars with engines over 2 liters. These models were also available in Portugal and New Zealand. The 208 GTB/GTS, which replaced the 208 GT4 2+2, is sometimes considered the slowest Ferrari but was faster than the 208 GT4 Bertone in a Motor Trend test. The engine, one of the smallest V8s ever produced, was de-bored to 1,990.64 cc, delivering 155 hp through four Weber carburetors. A total of 160 208 GTS and 140 208 GTB units were produced in 1980 and 1981.
