Timeline

The Ferrari 212 E Montagna, a one-off sports racing car produced in 1968, was built on a Dino 206 S chassis and powered by a unique 2-liter, 48-valve, flat-12 engine, derived from the 1512 1.5-liter Formula One engine. The car, driven by Peter Schetty, completely dominated the 1969 European Hill Climb Championship, winning every race it entered and setting numerous course records. Its name, "212 E Montagna," indicates its 2-liter 12-cylinder engine and its specialization in hill climb racing ("Montagna" meaning mountain in Italian). Notably, the 212 E's design and engine served as a crucial developmental step towards the 1970s 312B F1 cars and 312PB sports racers. After its competitive life, the car was sold and continued to race in hill climbs during the 1971 season.
