The Ferrari 212 Inter, introduced in 1951, succeeded the 166 and 195 Inter grand tourers. It was revealed at the Brussels Motor Show as an evolution of the 166, designed as a sports car suitable for both road and international racing. In 1951, the 212 Inter achieved a notable 1-2 victory at the Carrera Panamericana in Mexico, with two Vignale coupés driven by Taruffi/Chinetti and Ascari/Villoresi. The chassis of the 212 Inter was similar to the 125, featuring double wishbones at the front and a live axle at the rear. Various coachbuilders including Carrozzeria Touring, Ghia, Ghia-Aigle, Vignale, Stabilimenti Farina, and Pinin Farina, who, in a significant collaboration with Ferrari, bodied the first 212 Inter Cabriolet, chassis no. 0177E.
