The Ferrari 246 SP, introduced in 1961, was Ferrari's first mid-engined sports car, developed in response to competitive rear-engined racecars. Designed by Carlo Chiti and Medardo Fantuzzi, it featured a 2.4-litre Dino V6 engine and innovative aerodynamics, including a low bonnet and a high rear body. The car proved successful in races like the 1961 Targa Florio, contributing to Ferrari's championship wins. Only two units were made, each undergoing several modifications throughout their racing careers. The 246 SP combined a durable tubular chassis, independent suspension, and disc brakes, but was notorious for its extremely hot cockpit.
