The Ferrari 250 GTO, produced from 1962 to 1964, stands as a pinnacle of Ferrari's automotive engineering and design. Only 36 units were made, comprising 33 cars with 1962-63 bodywork and three with 1964 bodywork similar to the Ferrari 250 LM. Initially sold for $18,000, these cars now command record-breaking prices, with a 1963 model selling for $70 million in 2018. Designed for Group 3 GT racing, its chief engineer Giotto Bizzarrini focused on aerodynamics, resulting in a distinctive all-aluminium body. The 250 GTO was powered by a race-proven 3.0 L V12 engine, producing around 300 PS. It dominated the over 2000cc class of the FIA's International Championship for GT Manufacturers from 1962 to 1964 and won the Tour de France Automobile in 1963 and 1964.
