In 1959, Ferrari modified the Dino V6 engine of the 246 F1 car by increasing the bore by 1 mm to 86 mm, boosting the displacement to 2474.54 cc and power output to 295 PS at 8600 rpm. This update also included standard disc brakes and a five-speed gearbox. However, despite these improvements, the car, driven exclusively by Tony Brooks, struggled against faster mid-engined British cars, though it did secure victories in the French and German Grands Prix.
