The Ferrari 268 SP was a variant of the 248 SP, fitted with an enlarged V8 engine, increasing its stroke to 71 mm for a total displacement of 2.6 liters. This adjustment aimed to enhance competitiveness in the 3.0-litre Sport and Prototype classes. Only three 268 SPs were made, all converted from other models, with just one (chassis 0798) remaining in its original configuration. The tipo 202 V8 engine featured a 77 by 71 mm bore and stroke, producing 265 PS at 7000 rpm. Chassis 0798, initially a 248SP, was converted to a 268 SP and raced in the 1962 24 Hours of Le Mans, but retired due to transmission failure. It later raced in the United States, achieving notable placements in various events. After several ownership changes and racing modifications, chassis 0798 remains the only surviving 268 SP, restored to its original state. Chassis 0802 and 0806, also converted to 268 SPs, suffered accidents and were later converted to 196 SP specifications.
