Ferrari produced six 288 GTO Evoluzione models, including one prototype and five production units. Introduced in 1986 for Group B racing, the project was shelved when the series was cancelled, as the car didn't fit other racing categories. The Evoluzione, an advancement of the 288 GTO, featured a more aggressive and aerodynamic design with a 2.9 L twin-turbocharged V8 engine, producing 650 hp. Weighing around 940 kg, it could reach a top speed of 225 mph. Notable design elements included a unique front end, front canards, large NACA ducts, and a carbon fiber rear spoiler. These design and mechanical features heavily influenced the development of the Ferrari F40. All six models are believed to still exist, with one displayed at Ferrariās Maranello engine manufacturing facility and another possibly used in the F40's development.
