The Ferrari 308 GT Rainbow, designed by Bertone and unveiled at the 1976 Turin Motor Show, marked a distinct shift from Pininfarina's traditional Ferrari designs. Utilizing a special 308 chassis with a unique 2450mm wheelbase, the Rainbow featured a stark, wedge-shaped body, characterized by flat surfaces and angular wheel arches. Its most distinctive element was a retractable targa-style roof. The car had a 3-liter V8 engine from the 308 GTB/GT4, producing 255bhp. Despite its innovative design, the Rainbow was the last Ferrari-Bertone collaboration, as Ferrari returned to Pininfarina for subsequent models. The Rainbow, later repainted light metallic blue, remained in the Bertone collection for many years.
