The Ferrari 312T3, debuted in the 1978 Formula One season, was driven by Gilles Villeneuve and Carlos Reutemann from the third race onwards. The car retained the flat-12 engine used since 1970, now tuned to approximately 515 bhp. It featured a completely new monocoque chassis and a revised suspension setup tailored for Michelin tyres, along with bodywork modifications for improved aerodynamics. Despite these enhancements, the 312T3 struggled against the dominant Lotus 79 with its ground effect technology. Reutemann managed to win four races, and Villeneuve achieved his first victory at the season's final race in Canada. The season was more about consolidation for Ferrari, which finished second in the Constructors' Championship. Reutemann departed for Lotus in 1979, making way for Jody Scheckter to join Ferrari.
