Chassis 0138 A is a rare 340 America model built by Vignale in 1951. It is the sole example completed as a Cabriolet among the ten coachbuilt 340 Americas. The car was faster and more expensive than other models due to its Lampredi engine. Its early history is not well-documented, but it was delivered to a person named 'Mr Lindner' in Detroit or Chicago. In the 1980s, it was owned by collectors like Joe Marchetti and Ron Spangler. It was then acquired by Lord Brocket, who had a significant collection of Italian exotics. Brocket modified 0138 A's appearance and used it in various publications. Facing financial troubles, Brocket orchestrated an insurance scam involving the car's destruction. The fraud was uncovered, leading to Brocket's arrest and imprisonment. In 1996, 0138 A's chassis and engine were recovered and rebuilt by DK Engineering with a new Vignale Spyder shell.
