Timeline

The Ferrari 340 MM, an evolution of the 340 Mexico, had a shorter wheelbase of 2,500 mm. It retained the same Lampredi V12 engine and achieved a similar power output and a slightly higher top speed of 282 km/h. Ten units were produced, including four Pinin Farina Berlinettas, two Touring Spyders, and four Vignale Spyders (designed by Michelotti), with four being later converted to 375 MM spec. The 340 MM proved successful in racing, with Giannino Marzotto winning the 1953 Mille Miglia in a Vignale spider, setting a new average speed record for the race. Other 340 MMs participated in the same year, including two Touring barchettas, though they did not finish. The 340 MM series exemplified Ferrari's commitment to combining high-performance engines with innovative design for competitive racing.
