In 1993, Ferrari introduced the 348 GT Competizione, a lightweight, 50-unit homologation special for GT racing. It borrowed safety features from the 348 Challenge and adopted the F40 Evoluzione's braking system. The car featured racing suspension, a unique exhaust system, and maintained the standard late 348's 320 PS engine output. Distinctive elements included a numbered steering wheel, 18-inch Speedline wheels, and cloth-trim seats with kevlar structure for weight reduction. Use of carbon kevlar for the front and rear bumpers, doors, and additional interior trim, along with a polycarbonate rear window, significantly lowered the weight to 1,180 kg. Creature comforts like air conditioning and soundproofing were removed. The gearbox's final drive ratio was altered to 25/27 for enhanced performance.
