In 1993, Ferrari updated the 348 to the GTB and GTS models, featuring minor styling updates and a power increase to 312 hp (US) and 320 PS (Europe) from the 3.4-liter engine. Notable enhancements included a higher compression ratio, improved engine management system, and a new exhaust. These versions had body-colored engine covers and lower body skirts, with a wider rear track for better handling. The Spider variant, Ferrari's first series production convertible since the Daytona, shared these engine upgrades and featured a unique design with a wider rear track and a new transverse gearbox for improved acceleration.
