The Ferrari 376 S, also known as the 118 LM, emerged in 1955 as Ferrari's first race car powered by an Aurelio Lampredi-designed inline-6 engine. Developed to compete in the 1955 Mille Miglia and rival the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, it evolved from the 306 S prototype, featuring a 3.7-liter engine with 280 PS. Despite its potential, the 376 S had limited success; it marked its only European victory at the 1955 Giro di Sicilia. All four units were later upgraded to 4.4 L for the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans, but none survives in their original form.
