In 1985, Ferrari introduced the 412, an evolution of its grand tourer series, with a slightly larger engine displacement of 4,942 cc, reflected in the model name. Both manual and automatic transmissions were available, and for the first time, Ferrari offered Bosch ABS. Pininfarina redesigned the body to include a raised rear deck for more luggage space and modernized the exterior with body-coloured bumpers, a deeper front spoiler, a black rear valance, and black side window trim. The car also featured new flat-faced wheels with TRX tires. A total of 576 units were produced until 1989, after which there was a brief hiatus in Ferrari's front-engine V12 2+2 grand tourers until the introduction of the 456 in 1992. A black 1987 model of the 412 gained some fame after being featured in the 2006 film "Daft Punk's Electroma" and was later auctioned for charity.
