The 458 Spider, unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, is a convertible version of the 458 Italia. It features an aluminum retractable hardtop, which is 25 kilograms lighter than the soft roof of the Ferrari F430 Spider and takes 14 seconds to operate. To accommodate the retractable roof, the engine cover was redesigned. The 458 Spider matches the coupé in 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) acceleration time but has a slightly reduced top speed of 320 km/h (200 mph) owing to the additional weight.
