The Ferrari 512 BB, introduced in 1976 as the successor to the 365 GT4 BB, featured a 5-liter, 12-cylinder engine, marking a shift from Ferrari's traditional naming convention based on individual cylinder displacement. First shown at the 1976 Paris Motor Show, the BB 512 had an enlarged engine with 4943 cc, producing 340 to 360 bhp. Despite lower peak power compared to its predecessor, the BB 512 offered a flatter torque curve for smoother power delivery. Key technical advancements included a dual plate clutch, dry sump lubrication, wider rear tires for better grip, and modifications like a new chin spoiler and NACA ducts for improved aerodynamics and cooling. This model, which saw 929 units produced until 1981, was distinguishable by its revised tail lights, exhaust pipes, and engine cover vents.
