Timeline

The Ferrari 512, produced in 1969-70, comprised 25 V12-powered sports cars, named for their 5-litre, 12-cylinder engines. Designed for the 1970 International Championship for Makes, the 512 S model initially featured a new 60° V12 engine with 560 PS output. However, Ferrari faced challenges, such as not organizing an intramural competition like Porsche, resulting in limited support for private teams. Despite this, Ferrari secured a win at the 12 hours of Sebring in 1970. The 512 M, a modified version, was competitive but Ferrari gradually shifted focus to the new 312 PB prototype, limiting the 512's factory support. By 1971, the 512 M, particularly in Penske's improved version, showed promise, taking pole positions several times. In total, 19 of the 25 produced 512 S models, including five spyders, were raced in 1970.
