The Ferrari 512 S Berlinetta Speciale, a 1969 design research prototype by Pininfarina, featured a mid-mounted 4.9-litre V12 engine and was built on the chassis of the first 512, derived from Ferrari's Can-Am racer. Designed by Filippo Sapino, it was unveiled at the 1969 Turin Motor Show. Notably, it was the first Ferrari to adopt the 'wedge' design, diverging from the brand's traditional curvaceous styling. Despite its 512S designation, it housed a 6.0-litre V12 from a 612 Can-Am racer, albeit as an empty block. This prototype marked a shift in Ferrari design, influencing the angular style of later models such as the 365 GTC/4 and the Berlinetta Boxers.
