In 2000, Ferrari introduced the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina at the Paris Motor Show to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Pininfarina. This limited-edition roadster, with only 448 units produced, was a true barchetta, featuring a rudimentary cloth soft top designed for temporary use and not suitable for speeds above 70 mph. The 550 Barchetta distinguished itself from the coupé with a steeper windshield, roll-over hoops, a longer rear section offering more cargo space, and exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels. While mechanically similar to the 550 Maranello coupé, the Barchetta had a slightly different engine code (F133C) for differentiation and displayed marginally altered performance figures due to the absence of a fixed roof; it had the same 0–62 mph acceleration time of 4.4 seconds but a slightly reduced top speed of 186 mph. Each car featured a numbered plaque with Sergio Pininfarina's signature, underscoring its exclusivity.
