The Ferrari 712P, a Group 7 prototype, was designed and developed by Scuderia Ferrari for the Can-Am sports car races from 1970 to 1974. This car succeeded the Ferrari 612P Can-Am car and was based on the Ferrari 512S chassis number 1010. Notable for its 7-liter V12 engine, the 712P developed a staggering 720 horsepower. It debuted at the 1970 Can-Am race at Watkins Glen, driven by Mario Andretti, who finished fourth. The car was used sporadically in races by the North American Racing Team, managed by Luigi Chinetti, until 1974, after which it was sold. The Scuderia only used the 712P prototype once in a race at Imola, which was won by Arturo Merzario. In 2005, it made an appearance at the AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix at the Nürburgring in historic motorsport.
