The Ferrari 640, also known as the Ferrari F1-89, was Ferrari's entry in the 1989 Formula One World Championship. Designed by John Barnard, it featured a sharp nose, a narrow monocoque, bulging side-pods for aerodynamic efficiency, and a pioneering electrohydraulic actuated semi-automatic gearbox. Despite initial reliability issues, notably with the gearbox, the 640 showcased remarkable speed. Driven by Nigel Mansell and Gerhard Berger, it secured three race wins. Mansell finished fourth and Berger seventh in the Drivers' Championship. Ferrari ended the season third in the Constructors' Championship, closely contesting but ultimately losing the second place to Williams.
