In 1995, Ferrari expanded the F355 lineup with the introduction of the GTS model. Based on the Berlinetta, the key feature of the GTS was its removable "targa-style" hardtop roof, storable behind the seats. The rest of the specifications mirrored those of the Berlinetta. Production of the F355 GTS totaled 2,577 units, with 2,048 equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission and 529 with the F1-style automated transmission.
