The Ferrari F399, a key contender in the 1999 Formula One World Championship, was a car of incremental evolution, closely resembling its predecessor, the F300. Designed by a team led by Rory Byrne and overseen by Technical Director Ross Brawn, it featured modest modifications like a new front wing, waisted sidepods, and an advanced exhaust system. The F399 was initially driven by Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine, with Mika Salo stepping in after Schumacher's injury. Despite setbacks, including a temporary disqualification due to illegal bargeboards, the F399 demonstrated formidable performance. It clinched Ferrari's first Constructors' Championship since 1983, with Irvine narrowly missing the Drivers' Championship by just two points. The F399's season was marked by its significant challenge to the McLaren team, highlighted by Irvine's wins in Australia, Austria, and Germany, and Schumacher's victories at Imola and Monaco.
