Timeline

In 1985, the Ferrari Mondial received an engine upgrade to a 3.2L capacity, boosting output to 270 hp. This update was first revealed at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Available as both a Coupé and a Cabriolet, the Mondial 3.2 featured refreshed styling with body-colored bumpers, integrated indicators and driving lamps, and new alloy wheels. The interior also saw significant improvements for ergonomics and aesthetics, including a redesigned instrument binnacle. From 1987 onwards, models were equipped with ABS brakes. The fuel system continued to use Bosch K-Jetronic injection with an O2 sensor for mixture control, while the ignition utilized a Marelli Microplex system. Notably, the 1988 Mondial 3.2 was the last model to maintain the lower maintenance demands of the 308/328 drivetrain, allowing major services like timing belt and clutch replacement without removing the engine/transmission.
