Timeline

The 1989 Mondial t, the final Mondial evolution, introduced significant changes in design and mechanics. It featured a longitudinal engine and transverse gearbox ('t' layout), smaller air intakes, body-colored bumpers, and different door handles. This layout, inspired by Ferrari's Formula 1 cars, improved handling and set the standard for future mid-engine V8 Ferraris. The 3.4 L engine with 300 hp used Bosch Motronic electronic control. Innovations included power-assisted steering and electronically controlled suspension. Although a major performance upgrade, the Mondial t was the last mid-engine 2+2 Ferrari, as later four-seat models shifted to a front-engine design. Its chassis influenced Ferrari models up to the 360, but its unique mid-engine 2+2 configuration remains unmatched in later Ferrari designs.
