The Ferrari P540 Superfast Aperta, a unique convertible sports car, is based on the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano and represents the second vehicle in Ferrari's Special Project program. Commissioned in 2008 by Edward Walson, the car was intended as a modern version of the gold Carrozzeria Fantuzzi-bodied Ferrari 330 LMB from the 1968 film "Spirits of the Dead". Revealed on 11 December 2009, the P540, designed by Pininfarina and built in Maranello, was developed to meet international safety and homologation standards. Its conversion to a convertible involved using carbon fiber to stiffen the chassis. As it shares its foundation with the 599 GTB F1, many specifications of the P540 are similar to the original model. The development process took 14 months.
