In 1989, Ferrari manufactured a unique Mondial t exclusively for PPG Industries to serve as a pace car for the PPG Indy Car World Series. Designed by Ercole Spada at the I.DE.A Institute, this one-off model was built at an estimated cost of $1 million. It made its debut at the 1989 Champion Spark Plugs 300 in Laguna Seca. This special Mondial t showcased Ferrari's capability to create customized, high-performance vehicles for specific roles, in this case, a pace car for a prominent racing series.
